The Vacancy

Position: We are seeking a Cafe Assistant, to be based at our Stornoway campus. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare and present light meals, vegetables, salads, and hot and cold sandwiches.
  • Provide friendly, efficient customer service in the café, including handling cash and assisting with food service.
  • Deliver hospitality services to clients in offices and classrooms across the College as directed.
  • Wash crockery, cutlery, and kitchen utensils while following health and safety procedures.
  • Keep tables, work surfaces, equipment, kitchen areas, and stores clean and tidy.
  • Stock and clear food counters as needed, and receive and store deliveries.
  • Work as part of the team, providing cover for colleagues when required.
  • Support the Café Supervisor and Cook in the smooth day-to-day running of the café.

 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills: The successful candidate will have the necessary  understanding of food safety and health and safety requirements, together with an industry-relevant food preparation qualification. Previous experience of working in a kitchen or café environment, including cash handling, is desirable. The role requires a polite, friendly and motivated individual with a flexible approach to duties and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. The candidate should have good organisational skills and be able to multitask while working in a busy café environment. 

 

A level of Gaelic ability would be advantageous to your application.
